Easy Afternoon Spring Art Projects

Today I want to show you guys my little paint projects I've been working on.  I've had a little free time in the afternoon the past few days, so I decided to make some cute little spring paintings, and some fun owl paintings as well.

I'll attempt to do a how-to for this, but a lot of it was free hand.  I started with this cute stencil I got at Hobby Lobby for about $4.

I painted this 12x12 canvas bright yellow, though this photo doesn't do the color justice.

I then painted the owls by using the stencil.  They turned out really horrible, so I just painted them solid.  I did two on the left side first.

Then I adjusted my stencil and did the other two so they would look centered correctly on the canvas.

Then I traced some of the details from the stencil in pencil (look at me, rhyming).  After tracing the details on, I painted them in with black and white paint just to give the owls some detail.  It was actually super easy.  I got a C- in art class back in high school, so if I can do this so can you.  Bet you didn't know they even gave grades that poor in a high school art class, did you?

And here it is, hanging up on the wall.  I think it's pretty cute for a two hour afternoon project.  It wouldn't even take that long, but I had to wait for the paint to dry before doing each color.  Great project to do while you're cleaning the kitchen or something. :-)

And because it was so easy and so fun, I did it again in a different look.

After I finished my owls, I moved on to birds.  Here's a fantastic stencil from Marth Stewart.  I love her stencils.  Like I said, I am not an artist, so these babies are my lifeline!

I started with this tree branch.

And added this one below it.

Painted on my pretty blue bird...

And a green one, and she's done!  I also added some of Martha's Multi-Surface Pearl Paint in Jet Blue around the edges of the canvas, just to give it a more finished look.

Here's another take on this one, with different use of the stencils, and obviously some very different color choices.

Okay, one more.  I'm  not going to show details on this one, except to say this was another $4 Hobby Lobby stencil

And here's the result.  I love it so much!
