I've chosen my Liebster Blogs!

What is a Liebster Award?
The award is one that recognizes and brings attention to blogs with less than 200 followers like us here at There's No Place Like Home.  We were given this award last week. I have been asked to pass this award on to five other up and coming blogs. After browsing a ton of blogs this week, I've found five great blogs I am pleased to pass this award on to!

If you are selected for this award, you need to:

1. Choose FIVE up and coming blogs to award the Liebster to. Blogs must have less than 200 followers.

2. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.

3. Post the award on your blog. List the bloggers you are giving the award to with links to their sites.

I'm so happy to pass the Liebster Blog Award on to the following blogs.  Please stop by and check out all their amazing projects!

Peggy at PJH Designs.  She loves to refurbish and re-purpose vintage and antique furniture and home decor items.  And she's great at it!

Nebraska Furniture Mart=True Love

What a busy week!  I have been swamped at work, and have had no time to write!  Today I finally feel like I can relax after a crazy few days.

Saturday we decided to go browse Nebraska Furniture Mart.  Those of you who are local know what I mean when I say that place is a giant playground for adults.  They have everything you could possibly dream of when it comes to furnishing and decorating a home.  So dream is exactly what we did.  We walked through every department, just picking out items that we liked...and then arguing with each other about our taste in furniture.  :-) Needless to say, I got home and made a wish list on their website.  I thought I would share a few of the items I am dying to own!

I would love to have this rug for under our kitchen table.  Our living room that is adjacent to the kitchen is done in muted greens and blues.  I want to bring the yellow and red into the kitchen.  I feel like my kitchen would be more homey in warm colors.  This rug would be a perfect way to tie the two rooms and color schemes together.

I'm not sure what I would do with these jars, but I think they are awesome!

These finials are great because you can leave them as they are, or decorate them with floral items for the different seasons and holidays.

Right now I don't have a canister set in the kitchen.  It's mostly because I can't stand clutter on the counters.  But if these beauties were cluttering up my counter tops, I would be in heaven.

Last but not least, here is the kitchen table we ALMOST bought.  It's a counter height table, which I love.  I think it just has a more modern look.  My sister has one, and it even works great for her kiddos to sit at.  I like this table because it is two-toned in browns.  I like the idea that I'm not tied down to one grain and one stain.  We didn't end up purchasing the table as we still have some other bills to pay that come with furnishing a brand new house.  Don't worry.  I promised it I would be back for it!

Have a great Tuesday everybody!

Thursday Thrift Store Finds!

I decided to treat myself to a stroll through a couple of antique and thrift stores today.  I came up with these three lovelies, and I'm only $12 poorer!  I'm going to leave the bowl piece and the decorative ball as they are.  The gold wooden plaque will definitely need to be painted, but that's half the fun, right?

I can't decide what color to paint it, but I'm thinking turquoise or teal to match the guest bathroom I claimed I was finished decorating. :-P  I'm beginning to think I just want to keep decorating that room because it's done in the fun colors I love.  The rest of the house is more neutral-also known as "boyfriend friendly".  He's  not crazy about the colors I would put on my dream color palette.  Ah, well.  Compromising stinks doesn't it?

Well, if we're lucky in a few days I should have my little gold beauty painted up.  It's just so cold outside right now that nothing sounds good but snuggling up under a blanket on the couch for a movie!  I better go make some hot chocolate!  After a few cups I should be warm and over caffeinated enough to get something done!

Baby steps...Guest Bathroom

When it comes to decorating a new home, you have to take baby steps.  I decided to first tackle one of the smallest and most irrelevant rooms in my house. I have finished decorating my guest bathroom upstairs.  It was originally a kids bathroom with surfboards.  Silly me, I didn't take a before picture.  Booo!  I still wanted to share the "after" photos because I'm so proud of the way it turned out.

For some reason this bathroom is the only room in the entire house that I have fully decorated and finished.  I think it's because I rarely use that room, and wasn't afraid of how it would turn out.  Now if only I could get up the guts to work on the rest of the house in the same mind set. I just want everything to be perfect!!!  Of course, decorating a small guest bath is way cheaper than repainting and decorating my living room, kitchen, or master bedroom.  All it took was a couple coats of paint some cute accessories and it was pretty much finished!

Like I said, baby steps.  And let me tell you, taking that first step felt REALLY good!

My Weekend Wall Art Project!

Since we will be painting the kitchen soon, I decided to go ahead with a wall art project I've been dreaming about

. I found this photo in a home decor magazine.  NOT CHEAP, so I decided I was going to attempt an affordable version of this using heavy duty scrapbook paper and some cheap frames.

I started by purchasing six 12x12 frames from the dollar store.  They were going out of business so I got the frames for next to nothing.  They were just frames with a cardboard print stapled to the back of them.  I started by removing the staples and taking the cardboard off.

I then spray painted the frames.  I was originally going to paint them with a brush, but the cheap material of the frame forced me to spray paint. I was super excited it actually turned out really well after a few coats.

Next I used spray adhesive and glued my scrapbook paper to the cardboard that was originally in the frames.

Last, I hot glued the cardboard with my new print onto the back of the frame.  I could have used staples, but I didn't have any on hand.  The glue worked just as well.

This is the final result!  It's a little hard to see the detail in this picture since a few of them are light in color.  They are not quite as beautiful as the magazine version, but I love them and it cost me only $12 to make!!  :-)  Now I just need to get my kitchen painted so I can put them up on the wall over our table!

Off work early equals = Easy afternoon stencil project!!!!

I love getting off work early, but I especially love it when the weather is nice!  I can come home, open up the big double doors in my kitchen, and get "artsy fartsy" as my boyfriend's sister calls it.

Today I decided to try out my new Martha Stewart adhesive stencils on a small apothecary jar I bought on sale at Michaels last week.  I chose colors to match our spare bathroom upstairs, which is done in mostly green, teal, and gray.

All I did was stick the stencil right on the jar, and paint!  In just a few minutes time, my jar had a brand new look!

I threw a few q-tips in, and VOILA!  A new bathroom accessory.   :-)

It took more time to gather my supplies than it did to make, and doing this little project made my afternoon!
